The first issue of GIMP Magazine

GIMP is a powerful image retouching and editing tool and is released as free and open-source software. There are versions available for just about every operating system.  It has has tools used for free-form drawing, resizing, cropping, photo-montages, converting between different image formats, and more specialized tasks. Animated images such as GIF and MPEG files can be created using an animation plugin.

Some avid users say that is a rival to Photoshop, the image editing software choice of many professional graphic  artists. In the past I've downloaded the software, but I did find it had quite a steep learning curve. That may have just become a whole lot easier...

In the last two months the newest version of GIMP (version 2.8) has been downloaded over 6.8 million times. The group behind GIMP has announced there will now be a GIMP magazine. They say:

GIMP Magazine features the amazing works created from an enormous community from all over the world estimated at around 8 million people.  Photography, digital arts, tips and tricks, step by step tutorials, master classes, help desk questions, and so much more are showcased and explored in this free publication.

Watch the video below as a fan describes the new GIMP 2.8 and shows you some of the new features. She also discusses some of the exciting new improvements.

It doesn't matter if you're 15 or 50+, if you ever wanted to unleash your creativity without it costing you more than you make in a month, the new version of the editor combined with the new GIMP magazine is sure to give you tons of enjoyment -- in a very artistic fashion.
