    Hi Susan,

    Bait & switch!

People are naturally curious, but you can end the discussion short by switching the conversation to them. Everyone likes to talk about themselves, more than they want to talk about you. And, if it’s people you know, you could likely think up a few places where you could “push their buttons.”

Please note: when I set up this advice column, I didn’t suggest you would get the best advice in the world, and some of my suggestions might work out horribly wrong for you.

If it were someone who asked that I didn’t particularly care for, I might respond by saying, “She’s doing great! She has a wonderful career that she loves; just bought a NEW HOUSE — but what about your husband? I heard he got layed off — how are you guys going to get by?”

Okay, well maybe that’s a little nasty — and if you’re replying to someone you like, you might not want to go there. So you might say: “She’s doing great! She has a wonderful career that she loves; just bought a new house. How’s YOUR daughter doing these days?”

Although they are curious about YOUR life, you will find people are more interested in talking about themselves and THEIR life. So now that you have offered the preliminaries, they will be happy to change the focus to themselves.
    :-)
    Regards,
    Steve

I Want You To Want Me
Brandon Trapp walks you through a classic tune from Cheap Trick, “I Want You To Want Me.” This classic tune first appeared on Cheap Tricks 2nd studio album, In Color, which released in 1977. At first, the song didn’t chart in America, but was a big hit in Japan. The success of a number of their singles in Japan led to their now famous 1979 concert in Budokon. The live recording of this concert was a smash hit in the US, as well as the live single version of “I Want You To Want Me.”

    American Woman
Adam Stark, from The Kicks, shows you how to play “American Woman” by Lenny Kravitz. “American Woman” was originally written and recorded by Canadian rock band, The Guess Who, and first released in 1970. Lenny Kravitz covered “American Woman” for the soundtrack to Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. Kravitz put his own twist on the song, giving it a slightly different groove, but maintaining that classic rock guitar tone.

What the heck are you talking about? If your meds are that strong, you should probably think about sharing them :-)

    Hi Mike,

The snow? Yes, it’s been crazy this weekend. I would no sooner than get done shoveling my driveway when the wind would just blow it in again. It’s supposed to war m up the net 2-3 days. Be glad if it takes some of this snow away.

    RE: websites

I’ve been developing websites for a long time. My domain name for my web development business is http://www.homebusiness-websites.com. It’s been registered since 1999, but I was working and making a full-time living from it for a couple of years before I put the website up. Of course, like anything else, there have been a few challenges along the way. Hoping to take on a couple of new clients this year.

I used to send out a newsletter from the site. It was always about web development. But I got tired of writing those type of articles since it’s what I do for a living.

This site, 50alone.com, was just started last year. It’s a hobby site, doesn’t make me much money — but I enjoy it.

    Thanks for asking!

    Regards,
    Steve

    Hi Doug,

    I don’t have a snowmobile — ans even if I did, I don’t think I would be racing.

Because of a big snow storm we are having this weekend the races have been moved to February 16th.

    Hi Kate,

I used to think they had unrealistic expectations, but now I’m not too sure. It always seems that the older generation is worried about the future when the kids come to power. I can clearly remember my father, strongly expressing his concerns of our generation. But we haven’t ruined the world yet….

I ran across an article today in the Huffington Post titled Generation Y’s Legislative Agenda: What Millennials Will Do When They Get Power which I thought was an interesting read. So maybe, we’ll be in better hands.

I think the kids will be OK! :-)

    Regards,
    Steve
