Want to work from home?

work-home-featuredA lot of people have asked me how they could go about making a living online. I've offered a few suggestions to some people. Had a nice email a few years ago from another web developer who used to ask me a lot of questions on my discussion forum. He said, with my help, he was able to realize his dream. Of course, since we are both website builders, we spoke the same language. It's pretty hard to tell someone who doesn't know anything about it, to go ahead and learn it on their own. It was a lot simpler when I started in 1994, and my skills and knowledge have just developed over time, as new things were introduced.

The picture to the left isn't me. Although, it looks like me back in 1999, after my web development business had taken off and HomeBusiness Websites was launched. Heck, it even looks like my home office at the time. But, yeah... there were a lot of times while working from home, that I would have my baby sitting on my knee while I worked. I would take breaks every so often, and load games on the computer suitable for teaching a three year old how to use a computer. Not much wonder she turned into such a computer whiz herself.

Then we didn't spend all of our time working, either. By the time she was four years old, we would goof off after lunch and ride our bikes. We usually ended up at a park close to home, and played on the slides and swings. She learned how to drive a bike that year.

Working from home certainly has its advantages. Besides earning more than what I could have made working for the man, I got to spend a lot more time with my daughter. It's something I will never regret.

If you're interested in working from home, there is a two-for-one deal on Amazon today. Both of the books I will mention below are free for the next 24-48 hours as an Amazon promotion.

super-moms-ebookSuper Moms Inc.: Work From Home, Build A Profitable Home Business, And Find Time For Your Family When You Have Kids To Take Care Of is written by Carolyn Woods. It's split into two sections. 1) Developing your plan; 2) Designing   Your Business. In the latter section it will cover lots of ways to earn money while keeping your kids as your first priority.   All of them have been done either by her or by someone she knows, so they come with real world proof that they are viable.

You will read her story about how after her baby was born she had to quit her job because it involved to much traveling. She hat to learn how to make the same money at home, so she could raise her daughter. Of course that was just the start, Today she has four children her own home, and they make a good living with her working part-time from home.

Keep in mind, that today... it isn't necessarily the mother staying home; sometimes it's the father. So the advise in this book is applicable to anyone. Even if you're over fifty, you will find it filled with practical advice. Click here to download the Kindle version of the book.

killer-ebookThe second book is Killer Work from Home Jobs: 200 Fortune 500 & Legitimate Work at Home Jobs. Lee Evans embarked on a lifelong mission 30 years ago to help job seekers move forward in their lives. From her own personal experience and her experiences in educating the public about job placement, she understands the stress involved with being laid off or otherwise being out of work.

She says, "The 200 jobs listed are from companies that have withstood the test of time, and the newer companies are so exciting, you want to give them a try. You deserve to find opportunities that are actual jobs where you actually get paid.  People work from home all the time, you just need to know where those jobs are.  Knowledge is power, and I created this book to give you the power you deserve."

You can click here to download the Kindle version of this book. None of the links provided in the book are to scam websites that just want your money and don't offer anything in exchange. She has personally researched each one of these opportunities. It's no lie.... you could have a new work at home job within the next week.

If you would like to have a place to discuss working from home strategies, let me know, and I can setup a forum for discussion.

Toxins in Everyday Cosmetics

cosmetics-featuredAs much as women want to look beautiful, they need to stay healthy too. You should be aware that there are dangerous toxins in cosmetics. The David Suzuki Foundation surveyed Canadians to find out what cosmetic products they were using and "found that one in eight of the 82,000 ingredients used in personal care products are industrial chemicals, including carcinogens, pesticides, reproductive toxins, and hormone disruptors. Many products include plasticizers (chemicals that keep concrete soft), degreasers (used to get grime off auto parts), and surfactants."

The Foundation has also put together a report called The Dirty Dozen, which is free for you to download in pdf format. You can grab a copy of The Dirty Dozen so you can review the products that have been flagged as harmful and then have a look at what you're using on a daily basis to see if any of these are in your products.

Some women are making their own cosmetics these days. Diane Kidman has written a book to show you how to do it. One of the reviews of her book said, "It doesn't have any crazy hard to find ingredients."

Below is a video clip which is a trailer for her book.

beauty-coverDiane's book Beauty Gone Wild! Herbal Recipes for Gorgeous Skin & Hair (Herbs Gone Wild!) can be downloaded for free for the next 24-48 hours as an Amazon promotion. After that you will have to pay for it. So, click here to get your copy now. She says, "You'll learn how to save a ton of money while avoiding harmful ingredients by making your own herb-based beauty care products. The instructions are easy, the ingredients pure and natural. The best part? It's fun. And the results are phenomenal. The moisturizing cream recipe alone is worth the read!"

Chronic fatigue syndrome reference guide

tired-featuredChronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) most commonly occurs in women ages thirty to just over fifty. You don't recognize it as an illness at first. It feels like you have caught the flue. But it can last up to six months, and in a lot of cases, several years. It seems it's also hard for doctors to diagnose it. Sometimes patients will have abnormal in a MRI, or their white blood cell count could be off.

Besides feeling like you have the flue, it's possible to experience some memory loss, and have some difficulty concentrating. Some people can continue to go to work, and just after cut down on recreational activities to conserve energy. Other people have it so bad that they can hardly get out of bed and even need a hand getting themselves dressed.

Besides feeling completely  exhausted, here are some other symptoms that could be present

  • mild fever
  • sore throat
  • tender neck with swollen lymph nodes
  • decreased ability to concentrate
  • muscle weakness and joint pain
  • headaches
  • memory and concentration problems
  • difficulty sleeping

Erica F. Verrillo was completing her doctorate in Speech Communication before falling ill with CFS in 1992. She is the co-author, with Lauren Gellman, of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: A Treatment Guide, 1st Edition as well asChronic Fatigue Syndrome: A Treatment Guide, 2nd Edition.

The video below, is a trailer for this newest book. Instead of hiring a voice-over, they have a computer generated text to speech narration. It's a little clumsy, but the information it gives you on what is contained in this book is good.

eric-ebookThis one-of-a-kind reference – now completely revised and updated – includes over 100 effective treatments, from antivirals to vitamins, as well as locations of specialists and clinics, Internet ordering information, and national, local, and international CFS/ME organizations. New and expanded sections include doctors' protocols and research on the causes and mechanisms of the illness, all written in concise, easy-to-understand language.

Every aspect of the illness is thoroughly examined, from diagnosis to an in-depth discussion of symptoms, from traditional to alternative therapies to essential coping strategies. The new edition contains chapters for those coping with multiple chemical sensitivities and dietary restrictions, as well an expanded section on children and adolescents with CFS/ME. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: A Treatment Guide, Second Edition, remains the most comprehensive reference guide on this disease.

There are a number of other symptoms that could occur as well. If you would like more information on what these might be, the U.S. National Library of Medicine - The World's Largest Medical Library has a fact sheet posted online that can be viewed here.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: A Treatment Guide, 2nd Edition (the Kindle version of the book) is being offered for free for the next 24-48 hours as part of an Amazon promotion. If you would like to get a copy of this book, you can click here to download it. You may find it a valuable reference to have in your digital library in the event that you or a loved one gets CFS.

Over Fifty and Not dead Yet?

jim-featuredIf you're over fifty it doesn't mean the end is near. Jim Donovan, author of Don't Let an Old Person Move Into Your Body, says he has heard people say, "Once you turn 50, it's all downhill from there...Better slow down because your best days are over...Retirement means boredom, poor health and pinching your pennies."

He claims getting old is a myth and asks, "If you didn't know when you were born, how old would you be?"

In his book you will learn:

• Why aging is a state of mind.
• How to avoid the trap of “being old.”
• How to identify and attract the dream life you've always wanted.
• How to prevent other people's negativity from destroying your dreams.
• How to eliminate “energy zappers” in your life.
• Why most of what we are told about illness and aging is wrong.
• How to avoid becoming a victim of age related illnesses.
• Practical steps you can take to achieve optimal health, at any age.
• How to create financial abundance and lasting security.
• Simple things you can do each day to help yourself feel better spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically.

Here he is, in this short video clip, with a couple of ideas to get you started:

I worked alongside of an older gentleman when I was twenty years old. Ed was 76 and still going strong. Management at the company were urging him to retire. They claimed at his age, should he get hurt, the insurance policies we had wouldn't cover him. I asked him one day why he didn't retire. He could go home and put his feet, more or less. But he said his brother retired when he was 65, and sat in his rocking chair. A year later he was dead. Ed didn't want that to happen to him. He refused to get old. Quite frankly, even though I was over fifty years younger than him, I had a hard time keeping up to him.

Ed had motivation. What about you? Where is yours?

In the book, Don't Let an Old Person Move Into Your Body Mr. Donovan relates several examples of how you can be motivated. Forget about age for a moment. Other than age, is there something else holding you back from doing what you always wanted to do?

Mr. Donovan says:

A friend and client of mine had a dream to build a healing and counseling center. Looking at her business plan, I noticed a huge wall standing in her way. The plan called for almost a million dollars in start-up capital. When I asked her why she needed so much money she replied, “To buy the building.” I could easily see this was not essential. I asked her if and how she could begin right now with what she had, without the building. I saw a sparkle in her eyes as she realized that it was possible to begin her business right then and there, with the resources she had. Her original business plan is still intact, however, she is now moving in the direction of her dream.

jim-ebookHis book delivers a message of hope and possibility to everyone he comes in contact with. Facing his own "demons" and overcoming impossible odds, he is able to see the potential in others even when they themselves cannot and his absolute refusal to accept limits, either in himself or others enables him to bring out the best in those who he encounters.

This book is free for the next 24-48 hours as an Amazon promotion. Click here to get your copy.

Beyond simple inspiration and motivation, Mr Donovan provides people with workable strategies that enable them to take charge of their own destiny and reach their full potential. So if you feel like you need a hand finding your motivation, get a copy of this book.
